I Stand Corrected

I just winced through both Guiliani and Palin’s bulldog-on-the-loose speeches. Rudy showed he can hurl insults with the best of them. That classic Brooklyn-style chop busting. Palin surprised and impressed me and defined what “hockey mom” means. I can’t wait for the debate with Biden and her. She is going to provide plenty of groin shots.

I don’t know that they’ll top this evening. The problem is they’re running on Democrats’ message now. What the hell?

Here’s what Rove said when Kaine was a potential veep pick. “With all due respect again to Governor Kaine, he’s been a governor for three years, he’s been able but undistinguished,” Rove said. “I don’t think people could really name a big, important thing that he’s done. He was mayor of the 105th largest city in America.”

Rove continued: “So if he were to pick Governor Kaine, it would be an intensely political choice where he said, `You know what? I’m really not, first and foremost, concerned with, is this person capable of being president of the United States.”

Tonight Palin made being mayor of a town of 9,000 people out to be bigger than it was. Yes, she did clear some things up in Alaska. Yes, she has more “executive experience” than Obama, Biden, and for that mater, McCain combined.

Being the lead in community theatre productions doesn’t necessarily qualify you to go up against Patti Lupone for a Tony. Being captain of the high school junior varsity swim team doesn’t prep you to take on Michael Phelps.

They’ve got insults. They got some big bends of the truth as well. They’ve put a muzzle on the “liberal media” as well. Funny we didn’t hear much about that until people began to question the Iraq War. By the way, are we really near victory there as Palin said?

Here’s a big what if: What if it doesn’t go well for the Republicans? What if-suddenly!-her son dies in the war just before the election? What if John McCain dies? I hope that Hollywood scenario stays a scenario.
